Youmacon!

Posted by dandycandy on June 26, 2006

Due to a week of having to deal with real life (a huge events happens for me on Saturday, and seriously, I need to plan for it), this blog will be on official hiatus, at least until I can get back online and start watching anime again.  But it anime con related news, I finally got my freakin’ validation from Youmacon in Troy, Michigan…after almost two months of waiting.  So I will definitely be going, yay!  Two cons in a year…I’m getting better at this, people.

And because I have been so busy, I can’t help but give myself a

sexy jitsu smack graphic

for leaving my readers hanging for so long…all three of you, forgive me!

The Disease of the Day is…Anime Withdrawl

Posted by dandycandy on June 21, 2006

I'm planning a huge event of my life (I can't tell you what it is yet), not to mention this convention of mine, and I must say, it's taking a huge damper out of my life.  I'm not on youtube as much anymore.  My internet time is stilted.  And my content in this blog is suffering.  I'm dreaming in Japanese.  I'm humming the cooking song from Azumanga Daioh. My diet consists solely of rice balls and pocky.

That's right, folks, I'm suffering from a case of anime withdrawl.

You know of the horrible, life-threatening (well, not life-threatening, but still mind-boggling) disease that takes an otaku and makes him or her normal.  It's gotten to be so bad that I actually miss that Haruhi Suzumiya girl being a complete bitch to everyone, and being one of the most successful female pimps known to man since Heidi Fleiss.  I'm completely behind on Nana, and the shoujo manga doesn't cut it anymore.  Sure, I have my video games and all, but it's not the same.  I never thought I'd say it, but I miss watching all sorts of anime, and especially now that I have this blog, I really want to watch it again.

So, I've racked my brain, and after catching a whole bunch of other blogs, I've figured out the cure, in the form of series, anime and not-so-anime, that I need to pop into my mouth so I can be healed:

  • Death Note: No, it's not an anime, but ever since I saw the article for it in anime insider, I've been wanting to see it.  Hopefully, I can get it shown at my con next year.
  • Nana (anime series and movie): My friend John warned me that the movie jumps through the manga in such a short amount of time, but I still want to see it.  Plus, the anime series looks really good, and I think the seiyuu for the two Nanas are fitting.
  • Strawberry Marshmellow: What I have seen of this series is really cute, and I would really love to see more.
  • GunXSword: Because everyone is talking about it, and like Haruhi, I want to see what the fuss is about.
  • Trinity Blood: I missed the huge movie premier, plus hot guys like Abel Nightwood, vampy or not, are all right in my book.
  • The Live-Action Princess Princess: Hot Japanese guys who are hot whether they are dressed as girls or guys.  Nuff said.
  • Shimotsuma Monogatari (Kamikaze Girls): I saw this movie a year ago, and it was freakin' hilarious.  I know seeing it again will definitely brighten my mood.

That, along with countless other anime that's been talked about a billion times over (never will you hear Naruto [unless I'm dealing out a Sexy Jitsu Smack!], Dragonball [hell-to-the-no], Sailor Moon [unless it's live-action] or any other anime out there that's been discussed for over six months), and I think I'll be all right.  I hope to watch all the series I just mentioned soon (I'll have to wait for a while for Princess Princess, and Death Note has another movie coming out in October), and have a review here.  *le sigh*

What I wouldn't give for an anime hangover…

Proof that I’m meant to be at Anime Expo…

Posted by dandycandy on June 20, 2006

…Mana, the god of all gothic lolitas (and all visual kei enthusiasts) everywhere, will be a guest at Anime Expo 2006.

I knew I should have hauled my ass there.  I would so love to see that person…*dies*

Hopefully, if my ideas becomes really successful and really, I could call him a guest of honor.  Oh well, a girl can dream right.

Maybe I should hitchhike…

J-Fashion Matsuri – It WILL happen!!

Posted by dandycandy on June 20, 2006

A lot has happened over the weekend.  It looks like my con idea can actually happen!

I thought I’d give you a little update on the progress.  My fiance and I found a really good place to have it – the Hyatt Regency Woodfield, right across from the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois.  The one thing my fiance and I were really worried about was location.  I love where ACEN is held, but I hated the fact that there we had to walk miles and miles for food and we were only surrounded by hotels and whatnot.  No more.  If we get our way, we’ll be in a prime area.  Let me outline why:

— We’ll be right across from the mall, which is accessible via the expressway as well as public transportation.

— We’ll be near plenty of restaurants, both in the mall and outside of it, so you don’t have to walk so far.

— There are several grocery stores nearby down the road.  Meijer, Wal-Mart, and Sam’s Club are nearby, as well as other specialty shops.  Further down the road is Mitsuwa, in case you need a pocky/fashion mag fix.

— It’s not as big as the Hyatt ACEN is held it (I didn’t want to have it there anyway), but it’s cozy enough, I think for this type of event.

— Did I mention it’s by the mall?

It looks like if we are lucky, we might be able to have it a year earlier, August 4-5, 2006.  It looks like it’ll be on a saturday and sunday, as this is our first year.  The hotel is excited about us, they’ve never heard about this type of convention, but would love to have us there (I love my hotel liason).  If there are enough people, we’ll definitely go through with it, so spread the word!  Thanks again for your help!

Over 1,000 hits! Thank you!

Posted by dandycandy on June 15, 2006

I don't know who is reading, but I'm blessed that you are. I never thought anyone who bother to read it, and all my other blogs have failed miserably, so I vow to do whatever I can to keep this going and to make it all pretty interesting. Plus, it's really fun. To all I've had the chance to comment to, thanks for the comments and the advice. Okay, enough with the ego-centric posting. I'll get back to work now.

The Disturbance of Ryoko Asakura aka the Go Go Yubari Syndrome

Posted by dandycandy on June 15, 2006

I watched episode 10 of the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, because it's the talk of the blogs right now.  To watch that Ryoko girl try to kill Kyon with an unheard of amount of cheeriness in her voice freaked me out.  It's like those really cute but really disturbed characters in the Melty Blood, the kind that make you want to say "aww" (Chaos and even Mech Hisui are the exceptions to the rule), but when they get to fighting and showing their arc drives, it makes you want to scream.

What is it with the Japanese, always making their killers are cute and cuddly, and yet will gut you at the drop of a hat?

Gratuitous World Cup posting/n-chan’s musings

Posted by dandycandy on June 12, 2006

In the only mention of the World Cup unless South Korea wins a game or until Brazil just hurries up and wins the damn thing for the gazillionth time, The Czech Republic routed the poor Americans 3-0.  Yup, that's pretty bad.

Anyway, thanks to all of you who have visited my blog in the past week.  This time last week, it sat at a measly 300 hits.  Now, it's en route to 900 and counting.  Thanks again, especially to those sweet commentors, and anime nano, who I am quite certain had a hand in this.

I played the new tetris for the Nintendo DS this weekend, specifically the mode in which you have to get 200 lines, and it goes through a hell of a lot of anime levels, metroid, zelda, excite bike, and all sorts of old school nintendo goodness.  All I got to say is…you're crazy if you think I can play at level 20.  The original tetris did NOT have a level 20.

I wish I could watch more anime, but again, I'll leave that to the other bloggers out there.  I've realized that I simply cannot watch "Gankutsuou" without having a major headache.  It's a retelling of the famed book "The Count of Monte Cristo" (although I find myself saying "The Count of Monte Crisco" a lot), and it's called one of the most visually stunning anime around.  Personally, I thought it was a pain in the ass to try to keep up with the story with all those psychedelic visuals out there, messing up my already aging eyes.  I didn't know if I was high or if the animators were just really high.  I mean, if I was high (and I most certainly wasn't) while watching it, it was a bad high, not that good high you feel when you play Katamari Damacy or something, the kind that makes you smile.  I hear it's a good anime, but it's a little too much for me.  I'm surprised TV Asahi didn't cause a wave of seizures a la Pokemon, because the visuals are certainly trippy enough to cause it.

And in another ode to Final Fantasy (and I bet there are plenty of them in the blogging world), I finally got a hold of "Limebarb", one of the most kick ass cosplay commision-type people I've ever seen.  I'm getting married next year at Anime Central, and I'm having a dress made – as well as a White Mage cloak.  My fiance is going to be the "Black Mage", and I'm going to be the "White Mage", dressed in a wedding gown with the tell-tale red triangles, as well as the cloak.  I asked her to make a few sketches for me, but it looks like I'm going spend a pretty penny for it – almost $500.  No trips to the dealer room for me.  But considering this is a dream of mine, I want to be married in style.  White mage style that is.

Now, that's enough for my musings.  Allow me to go an look up Japanese culture type stuff, and I promise not to bore you with such menial things anymore.  But on the bright side, at least I kept it in character.

Gratuitous Harem Posting…

Posted by dandycandy on June 11, 2006

If it's okay with all of you posters out there, is it okay if I steal Kyon away from Haruhi at put him in my special harem?  Just want to be polite and give proper notice.
